Memorial Dermatology

Because I spent a lot of my young life enjoying the outdoors, I have been a patient of Memorial Dermatology for more than a decade. Dr Karrie Amour and her predecessor discovered, treated and/or excised several squamous cell carcinomas and melanomas during my semi annual skin exams. I very much appreciate their knowledge, experience and care.

I was able to obtain an appointment in short order with the preferred provider Leah, who knows my history best. The review of my new skin issues was courteous, timely, and delivered with the great expertise that I’m grateful for and that I’m used to receiving. I could not ask for anything more.

Great experience as always , short waiting time and friendly staff. Dr Amor is fast, ( was there for an annual check up) but you feel heard. She has good bedside manners. Dr Amor has been the only doctor able to keep my rosacea under control, for over two years now!

Great location. Pleasant waiting area. Friendly staff. Knowledgeable physician assistant, Leah Bayliss, she's well on her way to being certified doctor to me. Great bedside manners. Good listener. Explains the plan. Helpful nurse assistant was nice.

I have been going to Memorial Dermatology for a very long time. I have not been back for years and decided to book a cosmetic laser procedure. I was excited that there was cancellation and I got in the next day. I booked a free laser consultation for a sunspot. When I checked in they asked me to fill out some forms to update my history and asked for my insurance card. I had questioned why, because laser is a cosmetic procedure not covered by insurance. She said just in case so we have it. When I booked the laser, I had to book it through a nurse not the appointment line because a PA performs the laser not a dermatologist, so I said ok. After my consultation she had asked if I wanted to do the laser that day. I said sure, I didn’t know that I could. Everything was fine up until I went to check out, the checkout lady at the desk said $99 for the consultation and $250 for the laser. I told her it was a free consultation I shouldn’t have to pay for it. Then she said well it could be $200-300 more without insurance. I said insurance doesn’t cover lasers, this is a cosmetic procedure. She said no not from what’s documented. I was shocked and upset but didn’t want to argue about it and make a scene. I mean what was I supposed to not do, not pay for it after my treatment? It was very awkward and it made me feel uncomfortable. So I decided to go ahead and pay the $99 for the consultation, which was supposed to be FREE! I felt like I was scammed. I called the office back and spoke with the nurse and she informed me that Dr. Pearson will make sure the staff understands when they book an appointment for a free consultation what’s allowed to be discussed and not so it won’t be billed under medical. Dr. Pearson said he will not be able to refund me the full consultation fee. What he could do is apply $50 towards my next laser treatment. I was shocked, really?! I asked why not the whole amount towards my next laser. She said unfortunately she couldn’t do that and the decision was not made by her. I finally had enough and said that’s ok. I will no longer come back to Memorial Dermatology and refused the $50 future credit. It’s about taking care of your patients and not treating them unfairly. Dr. Pearson and his staff took advantage of the situation. I was charged for a free laser consultation because I was asking too many questions…. So unheard of. I said for future patients, please make sure you let them know this is not a free consultation before you bring them back into the room before ANYTHING. Never coming back here again.
