Joyride Houston Tours

Although Houston has a diverse canvas of murals throughout its downtown (and elsewhere in the city), locating them (especially on a weekday with traffic) and learning their individual stories can be a challenge. Happily, Joyride provides a guided tour of these downtown murals. We took a tour one Sunday morning with Robby and Marna, owners of Joyride Houston Tours. Given the risk of rain that day, we went in their truck instead of the usual golfcart. While Robby navigated the streets of downtown (so much easier on a Sunday morning), Marna told us about Houston’s street mural project and provided details on each mural and the artist that created it. The initial goal was to see murals, but we came away with so much more–the stories behind the art. Joyride also has a Murals 2.0 tour, which explores murals outside of downtown (which is necessarily by truck due to the distances involved), which we plan to take in the near future. After experiencing the Private Houston Mural Instagram Tour by Cart with Joyride Tours last November, which covered a portion of downtown Houston’s murals and the background of their creation, we came back in late December for Murals Tour 2.0. This second tour, which covered some other parts of downtown, as well as EaDo, the area around St. Arnolds, and Sawyer Yards, was even more comprehensive and longer in duration that the initial tour. As always, Marna was both a charming and very knowledgeable hostess as she drove us around to see the murals. Our biggest surprise was the murals at Sawyer Yards as we had no idea that they were there. It was a delightful journey to see some incredible artwork. We took both tours on a Sunday morning, which we recommend as there is less traffic than during a weekday.

If you are in Houston or any of the metro areas where this company is, I cannot tell you enough good things about it to convince you to try them out for a tour. I took the Houston brewery tour with my best friend and we had such a blast! we were picked up promptly at the meeting location, we went to three breweries all within close distance to maximize our time, each location we went to we had so much fun and I am not from Houston learned so much about the area from my tour guide. I even said I hope they come out to where I live in Tampa! I hope that you will consider one of their tours or ask them about the possibility of combining tours if they have availability

What a wonderful tour. Marna went above and beyond. First of all, great communication. A few days before, I got a text with very detailed instructions regarding how to get to the meeting point. Then, we had car problems on the way to Houston and had to push the start time to an hour later. She was very gracious about changing the tour time on such a short notice. The tour itself was very informative, interesting and socially conscious. We saw a lot of great art and it was a pleasure to talk with Marna, too. A great ambasador for her city and its art.

Wow!!!! What an amazing experience! Never have we ever been on such an incredible tour. Jeffery was our tour guide and he was so thorough with his tour, always making sure we got to see and do what we would like. He made sure we were having fun and seeing all the sites we requested. He gave us brewery options and picked the ones that had the types of beers we enjoy. We had so much fun riding around the city on the golf cart. We left Houston knowing SO much about the city and full of yummy beer! Just can't say enough great things about this!!!!!

Eddie was a fantastic tour guide. He took us uptown to several of the local microbreweries. We had plenty of time to sample and chat up the locals. He did a great job pointing out mural art and its significance. We had a terrific time and saw more local flavor than if we ventured our on our own. Would highly recommend!
